The Internet is Muffled
The lack of convenient ways to share musical tastes online is a metaphor for the breakdown of communication that exists within it, as a whole.
I picked up a lot of great music from Tower Records from my last trip to Japan. (Yes, that’s still a thing there.) Been a while since I busted out my CD player but it definitely worth it.
Wish I could share them here, but already got a few copyright strikes just for small clips so unfortunately can't really do much about that. They've been getting a lot more draconian about it lately.
Copyright is important, but the problem is that there's not a good way for people to share art and music they actually like in a legal way, so what you end up seeing online most of the time is the fluff and bland stuff that just so happens to make it through the dysfunctional system we have right now. In a way, a lot of Web3 music projects were motivated by me just wanting to share cool stuff I happen to find! (In a legal way, of course.)
That's the thing about the internet right now - it's just so...muffled. You don't actually know what people are thinking or how they're feeling because the algorithms are designed to hold them back. It's a shame, really. 😢
